About Rita

Rita Russell
Rita Russell, Mayor Pro Tem

My family and I moved to Englewood when I was five years old.  I attended Maddox and Cherrelyn Elementary schools, Sinclair Junior High School and graduated from Englewood High School.  I attended Colorado State University, majoring in math and science.  After two years at CSU, I married my husband Dan. Dan is an Air Force veteran and a retired U.S. Postal Service supervisor.

Dan and I have lived in Englewood for most of our married life.  We have two children and four amazing grandchildren.

For 20 years, I owned and operated a painting and decorating business, providing a service for many different clients.

I am active in my local church and have volunteered for para-church organizations. My work on leadership training and development, including curriculum development, made the transition from private citizen to public servant less daunting than it might otherwise have been.

Thanks to many of you, I was elected Council Member at Large four years ago. I am currently Mayor Pro Tem and am a City Council liaison to the Alliance for Commerce in Englewood; Englewood’s Budget Advisory and Code Enforcement Committees; the Malley Center Trust Fund Board; and the Non-Emergency Employees’ Retirement Board.

I will work diligently to:

Restore the confidence of our citizens and business owners

  • Respecting your right to be heard
  • Representing your interests on City Council

Promote Responsible Growth

  • Partnering with existing businesses
  • Pursuing new commercial and retail development

Pursue Fiscal Sanity

At this time, I would like to thank you again for giving me the honor of representing you these last four years and to ask you to give me the opportunity to work for you for another four-year term. I reaffirm my commitment to being a true servant to the public, to upholding the City Charter, and to representing the needs of our citizens to the best of my ability.
